Uniqueness of static spacetimes with MOTS

Alberto Carrasco, Marc Mars

From an evolutive approach, black holes are of little use as they require complete knowledge of the future of a given initial data set. In this context, marginally outer trapped surfaces (MOTS) are widely considered to be natural replacements for black holes. If this was true, MOTS and event horizons should coincide in stationary and static spacetimes. In this work we study under which conditions the uniqueness theorems of black holes extend to static spacetimes containing MOTS.
