Computational methods in General Relativity: From exact tensor computations to numerical simulations.

Jose M. Martin-Garcia

This talk discusses some aspects of the relation between the use of exact (computer algebra) tools and approximated (numerical) simulations in General Relativity. A combination of both types of methods can be successfully used in many specific applications, and some examples will be presented, using the xAct suite for tensor computations on one side and the theory of critical phenomenal in gravitational collapse on the other side.
