Chairman's Introduction. Session IV.A
Alan Barnes
This session is dedicated to the memory of Brian Edgar who died on10th June 2010. Shortly before his death Brian submitted an abstract to this meeting. His talk will now be given by José Senovilla who discussed the topic extensively with Brian in May of this year.
Brian was a frequent attendee at the ERE meetings in recent years and shared fruitful collaborations with several groups in Iberia and indeed world-wide. Brian was a dedicated teacher and supervisor and a very able and productive researcher. However to many of us, Brian was more than just a colleague, but rather a dear friend. It was an honour to have known him and he will be sorely missed.
Brian would always find time to talk to students, whether his own or those of other people. Accordingly, as well as talks from a range of Brian's collaborators and friends, we have included a number of talks by students in this special session as we think Brian would have wanted.
